CRIMSON RED

Lola A wanted to wear something festive yesterday for our post-Christmas dinner date with Alfie, one of our favorite people in the face of the earth, at the Marriott Cafe. She picked this fiery red Donna Karan drapey cardigan which she turned into an asymmetrical dress by cinching it with a belt.

HEAD-TO-TOE MARGIELA

Who doesn't love Margiela right? Well, Lola A without a doubt worships Margiela! And here she unquestionably proves her undying love to one of the most important maisons in fashion history!
I'm super glad I got my Mom these oversized denims because it fits her like a glove. And the copper Margiela heels look amazing as well. Although the shoes according to my Mom are pain-in-the-ass to walk in but in the name of fashion she'll endure it. Well, heck they look absolutely fine. That's enough reason to endure pain, isn't it? Tiis ganda as most beckys would say!
Both are presents from moi! Yes, I'm a good son and she's a lucky Mom! Hahaha!!! But would you blame me for not spoiling her!!!

I SAY MIYAKE

Issey Miyake is absolutely one of the many Japanese designers my Mom and I worship. His iconic origami-like creations are classic pieces that defy all trends. His garment pleating has been continually been replicated but never matched. According to the brilliant designer, it takes two or three people to create garment pleating. Then, they have to twist, twist, twist the pleats together and put it all in the machine to cook it. No wonder these things cost an arm and a leg. But that's a little price you pay to walk around wearing a piece of art.

DOUBLE-BREASTED

Mom borrowed my vintage navy blue Yves Saint Laurent double-breasted blazer last week. She wanted to replicate the oversized jacket look she saw on German Vogue I got her two years ago. We both adore German Vogue for its fierce editorials compared to the more commercial and mainstream editorials on American Vogue. Coincidentally, I got this vintage YSL jacket this summer when I was in Berlin. When I tried it on it fit me like a glove. And the gold YSL buttons make me look like a total baller and a bad-ass playa. So I had no choice but to swipe my plastic.
Doesn't Lola A look sharp in a men's jacket?

MARGIELA AIDS CHARITY TEE

Both my Mom and I worship Maison Martin Margiela. The Belgian fashion house's influence in fashion cannot be ignored. Its revolutionary designs and conceptual shows have served as references for the next crop of fashion designers. Aside from this, Margiela is known for actively supporting the fight against AIDS. The Margiela AIDS Charity Tee is undoubtedly one of Margiela's most iconic pieces. It was first produced in Fall/Winter 2003. Since then, it has been seasonally reproduced in different colorways. Part of the proceeds go to Aides, a French organization that aides people afflicted with HIV.

The classic AIDS Charity Tee reads "There is more action to be done to fight AIDS than to wear this T-shirt but it's a good start." Who doesn't love the idea of fashion with a cause, right? Certainly not Lola A who fully supports the fight agains AIDS!

EXCESS FABRIC

Lola A injects some humor to her typical black and white ensemble. Fashion is supposed to be fun after all, right?

NEOPRENE

Mom and I are both obsessed with neoprene fabrics right now. There's something interesting and cool about its rubbery texture. And yes after washing it there's no iron-pressing necessary. It's ready-to-wear just the way I like it. It's perfect for traveling and people on-the-go.

THE BLACK BLAZER

It is essential to have a basic black blazer to every wardrobe. In my Mom's case, she likes a little bit more than a basic black blazer. That's why this Issey Miyake blazer is just perfect for her.

BIKKEMBERGS MULES

Check this out guys. Mom's latest acquisition - a pair of vintage mules from Antwerp Six's Dirk Bikkembergs! I like these lovely heels' mix of subtlety (plain black) and flamboyance (blatant display of the label's name). I don't mind the display of labels as long as it's tastefully done and  as long as it's purposely incorporated to the style of the article.
I just wish Bikkembergs bring back the old Bikkembergs aesthetic. I'm so over the commercial jock sportswear look!
Moving on. Check out Mom as she works her new pair of Bs! Will try to convince her to wear her first Bs  (yes the orange ones she wore at the Preview Ball last July) on her next outfit post!

WHITE LADY

Instead of wearing her trademark all-black ensemble Mom opted for an immaculately clean all-white number with a splash of light and dark browns for a change. Her whimsical Comme des Garcons deconstructed jacket was just perfect for the "fantasy" theme of Metrowear's Holiday Haute Couture shindig last night! After the presentation of the designer collections, Lola A willingly posed for my camera together with her favorite beckys in attendance!

BACKWARDS

Both my Mom and I love to explore the different possibilities of wearing a garment. Today, she puts a new spin on this men's indigo denim trench coat from Yohji Yamamoto's now defunct Coming Soon line. Instead of wearing it like a typical trench she inverted it backwards to reveal its seams, lining and even the tag. Thus, it looks more interesting and modern. Then, she paired it with an all-black outfit so the denim trench coat would pop out even more. And then, she opted for a comfy pair of chocolate brown penny loafers with tassels from Bally for a more laid-back look.
